            Christopher G. Peña will present a program on his latest book entitled “The Strange Case of Dr. Etienne Deschamps: Murder in the New Orleans French Quarter on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Young-Sanders Center for the Study of the War Between the States in Louisiana located in Franklin, Louisiana. His program will begin at 1:30 pm at 701 Teche Drive, Franklin, Louisiana


            Mr. Peña is a retired associate professor of nursing from Nicholls State University. In 2006, he earned an undergraduate degree in history while extensively writing about the Civil War in Louisiana. He has written four books related to the Civil War: Touched By War: Battles Fought in the Lafourche District (1998), The Times and Journey of Alice Farmer: Yankee Visitor to Acadiana-New Orleans (2001), General Butler: Beast or Patriot – New Orleans Occupation May-December 1862 (2003), and Scarred By War: Civil War in Southeast Louisiana (2004). He has also published two books that chronicle his paternal roots in Mexico: Adopted Land, Beloved Land: The Peña-Lara Story (2010) and The Peña-Lara Story: Revisited (2014). His latest book explores a different venue in history, though many of the key players in this 1889 New Orleans murder had ties with the Confederacy serving in various Louisiana regiments. Peña currently resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his wife and family.


            The Young-Sanders Center is located at 701 Teche Drive in Franklin, Louisiana. Our building faces the Bayou Teche one block from the St. Mary Parish Court House.
